With over 55 models ranging from 17 to 55 feet, you would think the folks at Wellcraft Nova had pretty much covered the spectrum of pleasure boats. But in fact, Wellcraft has been developing a number of new models to fit into its ever-expanding product line, including (among others) the new Wellcraft Nova 202, a boat the company says will “add an entirely new dimension to [its] popular family performance boat series.” Let’s see if they’re right.
Description
Amazing day cruiser in Wellcraft Nova line
The Wellcraft Nova is a sleek, sporty, inshore and near-coastal boat that is loaded with amenities. At 19’9″ (202 model), her closed-bow design neverthless allows for good sleeping comfort and plenty of gear stowage. Beneath the centerline hatch, this Nova sports a full V-berth, complete with interior shelving, a bi-fold plexi cabin door, and a hidden portable toilet. Side and aft curtains are popular options.
The cockpit is available in either the standard or sporty XL layout. The standard arrangement offers a pair of back-to-back seats that convert to sun lounges in seconds, plus twin aft jump seats on either side of a covered fiberglass engine box (complete with roto-cast drink holders). For a high-performance look, the XL package turns the back-to-back seats into deeply padded twin helm seats, replaces the jump seats/engine box combination with a near full-beam aft benchseat that will seat three, and finishes off the package with a padded sun lounge that covers the engine hatch.
Well-Crafted Boat – Wellcraft Nova 202
At the helm, the Nova 202 boasts a custom sport wheel, complete set of back-lit engine instruments. Additionally, a power steering, power tilt/trim, and a trim gauge as standard equipment.
There’s plenty of seating room in the 202 with a pair of back-to-back seats convertible to sun lounges and twin aft jump seats.
Just fun – we should have fun on powerboat
Other notable features here include a glove box, AM/FM stereo cassette deck, and even a molded-in ice chest. And for safety’s sake, you can gain access to the foredeck on this 20-footer not by tiptoeing along some precarious outboard walkway, but directly through the curved-glass windshield.
Wellcraft knows you’ll be skiing off the Nova. Thats why they’ve included an integral swim platform and ski tow eye in this easily trailerable package. A swing-down swim ladder is optional in Wellcraft Nova boat.
And finally, there’s performance. While we didn’t have a chance to run test numbers on this just-released boat, I can tell you that if she’s anything like Wellcraft Nova’s popular Eclipse series when it comes to handling, you’d better hold on to your seat. With a single Mercruiser 350 Magnum under the hood (Merc’s 4.3L is standard) Wellcraft reports a top speed of 54 mph at 4600 rpm, along with a cruising speed of 28 mph at 3200 rpm.
Available in what Wellcraft calls “Firethorn Red” or “New Wave Teal,” the Wellcraft Nova 202 comes complete with modern laser graphics, and she’ll soon be available for your inspection at a Wellcraft dealer near you.
